This index contains the name of those whose birth records are found in Birth Registers 3 through 12 at the Greene County courthouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. These registers contain delayed birth records for individuals born before 1915 whose births were not recorded at the time.
Although the county did not begin recording births until 1893, there are many records here for individuals born before that time, some as early as the 1870's, and quite possibly a few earlier. Each record contains a good deal of information, including date and place of birth, parents' names, mother's maiden name, number of children of the mother, etc. This index contains only the name and the book and page number on which each record is found; however, that information can be used to find the record at the courthouse or to request a copy of it.

George wrote again to tell me the following:
His father then moved in 1955 to McDonald Pa where he became the Music Director at Oakdale Boys Industrial School. It was a school for troubled and delinquent young boys. He formed a Marching Bugle Corps there that became quite good and marched in parades throughout the area. I was a sophomore in the Music Dept at Indiana State Teachers College, Indiana Pa.
I then entered the Navy Flight Training Program at Pensacola Fl in July 1956.
Upon completion of flight training I became a 2nd Lt in the USMC and retired in 1984 as a LtCol. Among many events during my service, I was a designated Presidential Helicopter Aircraft Commander "Marine One" during 1967 to 1970. Flying LBJ and Nixon. The Executive Flight Detachment
(Marine Helicopter Squadron One) was commanded by Col Don Foss, then by LtCol Ed Sample, and then by Col Dick Kuci, who later became a Maj General. I was a just newly promoted Major at the time and had just returned from Vietnam where I was awarded 13 Air medals , 2 of which were single mission Air Medals and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a different mission. All told, I flew over 250 combat missions flying the CH-46 Sea Knight Helicopter. When I retired in 1984, I had over 6000 flying hours in Helocopters and all were accident free.
Thanks George for sharing this - what a record! Now all we need are some photos.
Thelma CLAZEY wrote on the Genforum board the following:
'I have located the following: Alexander Compston married to Mary or Mariah Clovis. I have also located pictures of both of them and two of their daughters thanks to a Taylor descendant. Alexander had the following children: Eliza (Louise) Ellen who married Abraham Taylor; Rebecca; Mary; Montgomery; William Lewis and Ruth. Alexander had a brother Nathaniel, Isaac and sister Ruth that I have found to date.
William Lewis Cumpston married Elizabeth Etta Lemmon, daughter of Nancy and Salathiel Lemmon, Jollytown, PA.
William and Etta had the following: Albert, William Roscoe, Barney Milton; Goldie May; Ora Edith; Nancy Burnfield; Earl Jefferson Franklin; Charles Edward and Clarence Ray.
Ora Edith and Goldie May never married - became school teachers. Albert married and moved to Frederick Maryland. William R. married twice; Barney unknown; Nancy married Charles Clutter; Earl J. married Anna Marie Rose; the other two unknown.
