Recorded as a joiner and furniture maker.

 

Elizabeth was the sister of General Sir Thomas Bowser.

 

She died 10 December 1831 aged 76.  The Carlisle Journal Dec. 1831 records her obituary

"December 10th 1831.  Here, on Tuesday last in Botchergate, [Carlisle] Mrs Eliz. Cumpston, sister to Lieut-General Sir Thos. Bowser, formerly Governor General of Madras, aged 76.  She was a good neighbour and a kind friend, and is deeply lamented by all who knew her."

Joseph Hodgson Cumpston of Barton Hall  Westmorland is shown in the Return of Owners of Land, 1873 as having 52 acres of land.

 

Plaque in Barton Church reads

"Sacred to the memory of Joseph Hodgson Cumpston of Barton Hall.  Born February 10th 1817 Died April 5th 1908.  The path of the just is as the shining light that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.  Erected by his loving sons and daughters".
