Friday, September 21, 2007 Robert “Bob” Cumpston (1934-2007) 73, of Catlettsburg, passed from this life on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, in King’s Daughters Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

Robert was born in Catlettsburg, Ky., on May 4, 1934, to Charles and Nerva Boyd-Cumpston. Mr. Cumpston was the owner of the Catlettsburg Giovanni’s and retired from the Ironton Machine Shop, where he worked as a machinist and was head foreman for many years. He was a member of Catlettsburg Elks and bowled on a league at Blue Ribbon Lanes. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Elizabeth K. Rusk-Cumpston; a son, Michael J.C. Cumpston (Joyce); two daughters, Dawna Lauhon (Micah) and Dawn Deerfield (Brian), all of Catlettsburg; three grandchildren, Tosha Lee, Austin Deerfield and Kirstie Boyd, all of Catlettsburg; his mother, Nerva Boyd-Cumpston of Catlettsburg; a brother, Jimmy Cumpston of Ashland; and four sisters, Leona Gard and Sue Watson, both of Catlettsburg, Stella Canifax of Ashland and Mary Cole of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Cumpston, and two sisters, Joann Sugart and Donna Cumpston. Funeral services to honor his life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Ratliff Family Funeral Home, 1220 Greenup Ave., Ashland, Ky., with entombment in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Ironton VFW Post 8850. Rusty West, Scott Bybee, Greg Lee, Jay Boyd, Brian Higginbotham and Micah Lauhon will serve as pallbearers.

JOHN RUSSELL CUMPSTON, 90, of Catlettsburg, widower of Nettie K. Stewart Cumpston, died Friday in King's Daughters Medical Center. Funeral service 1p.m. Monday, Neal Funeral Home, Catlettsburg; burial at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens, Ashland. Visitation fro 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home

MARUSHI (Aug 03, 2001) ELEANOR CUMPSTON MARUSHI, 91, of Catlettsburg, widow of Andrew Marushi, died Thursday in Boyd County Rehabilitation Center, Ashland. She was a retired cook from Ashland Oil Co. Survivors include three sons, Jack T. Marushi Sr. of Proctorville, Ohio, and Bill Marushi and David Marushi, both of Catlettsburg; one daughter, Nancy Vanhoose of Ashland; and one sister, Maude Damron of Flatwoods. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at Kilgore and Collier Funeral Home, Catlettsburg; burial in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Lena Lillian Crumpton Oliver June 4, 1923 ~ February 23, 2003

Lena Lillian Crumpton Oliver, 80, of Merry Oaks Road died Sunday, February 23, 2003 at the Hart County Health Care Center in Horse Cave, KY. She was the daughter of the late Bryant Crumpton and Ruby Keith Crumpton.
She is survived by one son: Roy (Bill) Pullen and his wife Elizabeth of Cave City; four grandchildren: William J. Pullen, Steven H. Pullen, Teresa A. griffin and Laura L. Merry all of the Indianapolis, IN area; seven great-grandchildren: William J. Pullen, Tammy Pullen, Stephanie Pullen Nasby, Brittany Pullen, Breanna and Hanna Griffin and Joycie Merry; one great-great grandson: Carter Griffin Bogden; two brothers: Cecil Crumpton and his wife Loretta of Coal’s Ben and William Crumpton and his wife Shirley of Cave City; one sister-in-law Dean Crumpton of Coal’s Bin. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Oliver and her brother Roy Garnet Crumpton.  Funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Shilo Cemetery.

The community was named for settler Alexander Catlett and his son, Horatio. The latitude of Catlettsburg is 38.404N. The longitude is -82.6W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 554 feet. The estimated population, in 2003, was 1,908.
