At Sand Area Meeting House, Kendal, on the 12th inst., by Mr. Henry GROVES, Mr. John COMPSTON to Elizabeth , eldest daughter of Mr. COCKROFT, both of Kendal.
Carlisle Patriot - February 16, 1877 - Marriages
David Briggs has in his tree a Margaret Cumpstone who married one John Sowerby in 1816 at Kirkby Stephen. The IGI incorrectly lists her as Margaret Campstone.
David is connected to the Sowerby's by the marriage of his great-great uncle, Robert Casson, to Sarah Sowerby at Whitehaven in 1875.

There are only three other entries that I have at present with the same
surname as follows:
1753 Kirkby Stephen M067071 Kirkby Stephen Campstone Thomas Eliz Rukin Marriage IGI 25 Feb 1753
1802 Kirkby Stephen M067071 Kirkby Stephen Campstone Edward Ann Slee marriage IGI 21 Sep 1802
1815 Kirkby Stephen M067071 Kirkby Stephen Campstone Margaret John Sowerby marriage IGI 16 Aug 1815
There are also another 2 'minus the E' on Campstone. I suspect that these
are all part of my main Kirkby Stephen tree but have no further information
about them.
1763 Kirkby Stephen M067071 Kirkby Stephen Campston Catherine John Cunningham Marriage Register 2 June 1763
1824 Kendal M39649-8 Kendal Campston Mary John Barrow s of Josiah marriage IGI 1825
I would be most interested to know more about the Sowerby line. The one record that I know about is recorded from A2A in the Circuit Schedule Book:
'in Wesleyan principles, etc. Executors and trustees: Robert Longstaff,
nephew, of Brough, blacksmith, and friends Jonathan and Edmund Thompson of
Longmarton, yeomen, Robert Scott of Brough tailor, John Sowerby of Brough,
shopkeeper, Thomas Fawcett of Kirkby.'
