Plainville High School Social Studies Teacher Steve Compson has been named varsity coach of the girls volleyball team, according to Plainville Community Schools' Athletic Director John Zadnik.
Compson, a teacher in the school system for more than 20 years, replaces former varsity girls volleyball coach Kristen Giannini.
Compson served as interim head coach last season, and held the assistant coaching position prior to that.
Compson holds both bachelor and master of science degrees from Central Connecticut State University. He is a member of the Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
"With the tremendous amount of time and effort that Steve put into being the interim volleyball coach last year, he deserves the opportunity to become the permanent coach, hopefully, for many years to come. I am extremely confident that Steve will do a great job coaching our girls," said Zadnik.
