Catharine writes on her website:
My background education in art was at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta. The medium of choice for me is soft pastels, which have been in use since the 17th Century...and the pastel colours available now have never been more varied or more intense. Painting blends the creative with the technical, and the painting which I have on the go at any one time never stops teaching me. My interest in the wide Alberta prairie sky has been inspirational in developing my art.
In spring 2011, I am pleased to have some pastels showing at Gracious Goods cafe.
Please drop by to see them and for excellent coffee and great food as well.
Catharine Compston has illustrated a backcountry camping cookbook, Recipes for Roaming: Adventure Foods for the Canadian Rockies. After some busy years away from artistic pursuits, she found her preferred medium in soft pastels. She participated in Art Walk on Whyte in July 2010, and especially enjoys capturing prairie landscapes.
I have written to Catharine and we are working together on her ancestry. I wonder if she is related to my Canadian relatives?
