This unique book contains 244 pages, 100 stories and over 140 photographs. It summarizes the stories of over 100 families who left the dales between 1700 and the end of the nineteenth century. Whether these brave and stoical dales folk left for Canada, America or merely crossed the county boundaries, they faced enormous challenges in their new lives. They shared their exploits with their families in the dales in dozens of letters, many of which are brought together for the first time.

These stories form the basis of the first ever Dales Migration Archive.
