OBITUARY from WAYNESBURG REPUBLICAN, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania, August 24, 1916: BENJAMIN CUMPSTON

Benjamin Cumpston, one of the first settlers of Livingston county, passed away at his home one mile south of Fairbury, August 9, aged 84 years, 6 months and 4 days. Benjamin Cumpston, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cumpston, was born in Greene county, Pa., and with his parents, three sisters, and one brother came here in 1855, settling on the farm which the family now occupy.

They made the trip overland in wagons. When his parents died Mr. Cumpston stayed on the old home farm. When the family came here sixty-one years ago this country was very sparsely settled and wild game was abundant. During those three score years Mr. Cumpston has seen many changes take and place and our own little city of Fairbury has grown up since the deceased first made this his home.

Mr. Cumpston was here when the T. P. & W. railroad was built and helped to grade the roadbed. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Cumpston and had he lived until March next they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. To Mr. and Mrs. Cumpston were born three children, two sons and one daughter, all of whom reside at home. They are Jesse, Edward and Miss Ella Cumpston.

Osee married Benjamin CUMPSTON, son of John CUMPSTON and Esther CUMPSTON, on March 6, 1867 in Livingston County, Illinois. (Benjamin CUMPSTON was born on February 5, 1832 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, died on August 9, 1916 in Livingston County, Illinois and was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, Livingston County, Illinois.)
